Comfortable victory over local rivals

Match day 7, 17th June we faced Dartford CC at Hesketh Park in a local derby clash. We turned up in the baking heat and all that we could wish for was the skipper Murtz to win the toss and bat first on this hot day. Sod to law we lost the toss and found ourself bowling first, however we was not going to let this affect our performance.

Fraser and Jordan opened up the bowling with some tight bowling and a few boundaries saw dartford flowing nicely. Fraser grabbed a poll up top and dartford found themselves 56-1 off of 12. We now needed to restrict the runs, so me and shaun came on to bowl and slowed Dartford right down seeing them only pick up 20 runs in the next 12 overs. Following shaun was Alex Hill who bowled superbly, bowling 7 overs 2-6 which helped us put Dartford under very big pressure. This further started to show as Jordan came on to bowl his second spell following me. After a few wide balls in one over (5), jordan found his lengths and was hooping it in and out which had the batsman guessing. Wickets fell with Jordan picking up 3 in this spell and Dartford struggled to find any sort of momentum after the spell. Dartford slumped to 152 all out, wickets went to Fraser with 1, Jordan with 2, Shaun with 1, Hilly with 2, Anish with 2 and a run out from Shaun.

After a good tea supplied by Dartford the run chase was on. Shaun Evans and George Haley opened up the innings and we got off to a flying start. George was out for 29 which brought Murtz to the crease. Shaun and Murtz batted very well playing some great shots and ticking over nicely. Towards the end of the run chase the dilemma came where both batsman were in their 40s and there was 25 to win. So the question was asked who would get their 50. Shaun reached his 50 and with 2 to win, Murtz found himself on 48. Shaun being the good man that he is tried to get Murtz on strike which ended up with a tight run out seeing Murtz out on a well played 48. Then in came Tom Evans to knock off the winning runs with Shaun finishing on 55*. This saw us chase down the target in the 32nd over earning ourselves a well deserved win.
