A message from our Chairman of Cricket, Neil Mobey as we reach the start of our truncated summer of cricket!

I wanted to take this opportunity to update you all on what the rest of the season is going to look like from a playing perspective.

Considering less than two weeks ago we were still unsure if we would get any meaningful cricket this season and with the Kent League abandoned, it was fantastic to see two games and so many members at Manor Way last weekend.

This Saturday we have 5 sides out including league games for the 5s and 6s. Both will continue in their normal Kent Regional Leagues for the remainder of the season.

From Saturday 25th July, our 1s and 2s will be entering the ‘Corona Metropolitan League‘ which is a hastily arranged, local tournament, which will provide competitive cricket through to early September.

At present we are working on entering one further side, a combination of the 3s and 4s in to another mini league. Hopefully we will have further news on this over the weekend.

Sunday’s will be a mix of Aero Development games and friendlies.

The aim is to have cricket at Manor Way every Saturday and Sunday through to the end of September.

As we start playing cricket again, can you all make sure you are sensible, respect others and follow all the necessary guidelines. This year, more than ever, please take 5 minutes out of your day to thank umpires and scorers who give up their days so that you can enjoy a game.

The next couple of months will not be an exact science. Opposition may be too strong or too weak at times, you may not get the bat or bowl that you hoped for but my advice is let’s be grateful for what we have; which is cricket back on. As a Cricket Committee we will do all we can to ensure all it all runs as smoothly as possible, hopefully enabling everyone to get the opportunities to play cricket that they crave.

If anyone has any COVID related questions or concerns about match days, including transport to away games, please let me know.

Go well everyone and let’s see if the National Virtual Cricket Champions can add a trophy or two to the cabinet by September.
